THE LAUNDRY CONTEST

Joryn, the Laundry Boy is a pretty street urchin of perhaps 15 years of age. Turned away from his home by his father when he was 13, he has been supporting himself by turning tricks and suffering the indignities and injuries that are part of that life.

By chance, he meets Kheiva, who runs a male brothel and who is always looking for new talent. Kheiva considers Joryn too young to be a moneymaker for his house, but he takes pity on the boy and brings him home. Kheiva and the brothel brothers adopt Joryn, taking him under their wings to protect him and bring him up right (as they see it).

Kheiva and the others are not run-of-the-mill prostitutes, the brothel is doorway to another world, however; they are demons whose mission is to capture the souls of humans that are needed in the other world. They suck the soul essence out of a body through an ornate medallion they wear around their necks.

They usually prey on the marginal members of society—those who won’t be missed by anyone. It is the laundry boy’s job to clean up for the housemembers—including disposing of the bodies and body parts.

Who do the brothers represent or work for? It is not clear.

The Contest: To create a story line and sketches for the first episode of “The Laundry Boy” (based on summary above)

The Prize: Winning entrant will have work published by MetalSky Media, providing that work meets MetalSkys’ criteria.

Characters:
•Joryn, the Laundry Boy (can be the narrator of the brothel stories, or involved in the stories themselves)
•Kheiva, the head of the brothel—slim body, appears to be mid-30s, a little of the vampire in him, is ageless and immortal
•Various brothel brothers—similar to Kheiva, appear to be in 20s, and have varying shapes, sizes, and colors
•Apparitions, souls, demons
•Regular humans

Setting:
A large city (any continent); realistic; the present

Tone:
Setting/characters should be shadowy, edgy, as the main characters exist in the human netherworld as well as do other-worldly work. There can be scenes bordering on the horrific as the brothers go about their work. There can be suggestions of sexual activity. (No Limits. If you think the story needs it? Go for it)) There is room for humor, too. Brothel members are tricksters as well as soul harvesters. Humor should be physical as well as mental.

Action:
Things happen in the story—exciting, unusual, maybe even shocking things. (very shockoing, never before shocking) The first episode should not be just an introduction of the characters. (Introductory material can be included in small balloons at the top of the first panel that a character appears, for example.) As in all good fiction, there should be a beginning, rising action (conflict), climax (point of greatest interest when conflict is resolved, and ending (the aftermath of the climax or the cliffhanger that will lead into the next episode, for example).
The ultimate characters, action, and direction of the story line are up to each entrant. The information presented here is intended to give entrants a basic idea and guidelines.

Length of the Work: Approximately twenty 8.5” x 11” pages

We intend to the The Laundry Boy an installment series of graphic fiction novels.

ELELMENTS NEEDED IN YOUR STORY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR POSSIBLE PUBLICATION.

(1) Setting: Description of where the story takes place. Note: this is graphic fiction, so lots of detail is not required, however your description must make for a good illustration.

Requirements for the setting: When(a time frame), Where(the place, a name etc), What(feel of the place, what is different about it? Elements should be here to interest the reader)

(2) Action: Happenings and events in your story that leads to a conclusion

Requirements for Action: What happens to the characters? What do the characters do? What challenges do the characters face with a relation to the story and a purpose? How the characters face their challenges and overcome them. What is the final outcome of the above actions you created?

Follow this pattern for your action:

(A) Story Opening: The reader learns about the setting, meets the characters or some of, and some action takes place.

Requirements for Opening: Think of your characters, the role they have, and the purpose in your story. Don’t go crazy with detail, the idea is to get Metal Sky interested, that is all.

(B) Rising Action: Develop the conflict more and make sure it relates to your story and fits the characters. The action gets more and more exciting as the characters try to overcome their challenges.

(C) Climax: The action is most exciting, now is the time the conflict is decided and the outcome.

(D) Ending: The conflict is over, the reader learns how the conflict changed the characters etc. to bring the story to a conclusion.

Note: We will not read storylines that have typos, .bad sentence structure, confuses the reader and just bad writing in general.

Sugesstion: Make sure not yourself, but others understand what you are writing. Proof read, proof read, proof read.

If the story is missing the elements listed above, it will not be considered.

Good Luck

THIS CONTEST WILL RUN TILL WE GET A WINNER. PLEASE PASS ON.

Oh! The Story line seems very interesting! Sadly, I don't have enough time to do a comic....it's time consuming and I don't have a lot of time on my hands.....Y_Y

But, I was wondering if it's okay If I just conceptualize the characters rather than do a comic?
It's not for the contest....heehee:giggle:
